WeSUP Q#3

Wesup Qualifier #3

Fortunately the router for work changed to give me the Monday off so I found myself able to get down to one of my favourite spots for a morning surf followed by fun races down in Falmouth with the WeSUP crew. After work on the Sunday I headed down to Gwithian, made use of the bed in the back of my van and got up bright an early ready for a good surf to build up an appetite. Having said to various people in the past Gwithian always delivers surf I was somewhat shocked to find just a ripple, although clean and just about hitting the heady heights of 2 feet I felt somewhat let down by my favourite surf spot, That’s not to say I didn’t stay for 2 hours and mess around and clock up over 6 miles. I tried not to let the lack of surf bother me as it was merely an added bonus of the days intensions, WeSUP’s Third qualifier down in Falmouth. As Always a great reception from the energetic Sean White and without fail a fun and enjoyable race, A slight change from the normal W or Y race was on the cards for today in order to make the most of some swell and waves heading into Gyllyvase Beach, Also making the most of the boat lane markers meant preparing and dismantling the race was a lot easier. The race consisted of running down the beach to your boards, heading out through the waves and swell round the mark, surf back in, run up the beach through the flags and repeat. Sean got off to a great start and got to his board with lightning pace, following close behind was Mike and I. I battled to beat Mike but he gained a bit of time on the beach running section and I figured he would keep the lead, on the last leg back in through the waves I managed to claw myself onto to wave mike was much more likely to catch. He saw I managed to catch the wave and it was neck and neck, I tried to prepare myself to give it everything I had to get off in front of him and maybe try and block him as much as possible on the run up the beach, then fortune favoured me. I heard him shout no, nooo and heard a splash followed by a board hitting me in the shins, I managed to keep my balance and charged up the beach to claim second place just behind Sean.

Hopefully ill be able to make a few more of the summer series at WeSUP as they are a great bunch of people and always great fun, Thanks to all involved.
